Meet Alexey - our member of the month in June!

Introduction round: Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Alexey, I’m a software developer. Originally from Moscow, I moved to Germany four years ago.

What made you come to Berlin?
Berlin was love at second sight. For some reason I didn’t find it special during my first visit ten years ago. However, very quickly it grew on me, and now I think it’s the best city in the world. Multikulti and the feel of freedom are probably two things that I like the most.

What exactly do you do? What's in the pipeline for the near future?
I write apps for Apple devices: iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch. I work on my own apps and also do contract work. If you’re a Mac user you may know one of my apps called Telephone. It allows one to make phone calls from a computer via Sipgate and Telekom providers or FritzBox devices. Since 2008 this has been my side project and I finally decided to give it more attention. That’s what I’m working on right now.

Since when do you cowork at Office Club?
I’m a happy Office Club member for 1.5 years.

What is the benefit of using a coworking space for you?
I love the clear work/home separation and the atmosphere that a coworking space provides. It makes me more productive.

Which questions / problems could you help your coworking neighbour with?
Professionally I can be helpful as an iOS programmer or a consultant in the area of making phone calls via internet (VoIP). As a hobby, I can talk hours about human metabolism and real-life experience with applying very low carbohydrate and high fat diet.

Do you have favourite spots in Berlin? Something to recommend / consider especially for people coming here?
Before visiting new cities and places I never read any recommendations on purpose. If I did, I would always look at the city through the prism of somebody else’s experience and wouldn’t be able to have one that is truly my own. And that is my recommendation to others. Throw out city guides and explore the city by foot on your own!
